HUMMINGBIRD SUMMERSWEET is a great shrub to use in landscape beds.  This variety of Summersweet is excellent to use because of its fragrant, long-lasting flowers.  The foliage of this plant is dark green and glossy, giving it additional eye appeal.  In the fall, the foliage turns to yellow.  This native plant has interest from spring through the fall.

Flowers of Hummingbird Summersweet are white and grow in long, fox-tail like clusters.  When the shrub is blooming it is covered with cascading flower groups.

Details-  Hummingbird Summersweet is a dwarf variety of the Summersweet family.  This compact plant does well in foundation plantings and border too.  For the first year after installation, make sure that you provide adequate water to help establish the root system of the plant.  Hummingbird Summersweet also enjoys slightly acidic soil.

Pruning-  The best time to prune Hummingbird Summersweet is after the plant is done flowering in the fall.  You can also prune this shrub in the winter before the new buds open up in the spring.  Do not prune this plant when it is actively flowering.
